INR 120.21 crore for five-year Amrut project

Nagaland’s Urban Development department aims at facilitating smooth transition of urban growth through preparation of development plans and implementing various schemes and programmes.

It has been informed that the total strength of the department at present comprises of 188 sanctioned posts, and 91 work-charge employees.

According to the department, the total allocation for Nagaland for Amrut mission from 2015 to 2020 was INR 120.21 crore; covering a total of 27 projects, out of which 26 projects, amounting to INR 114.71 crore have been tendered so far.

As informed by the department, some of the completed projects and ongoing projects under Amrut mission are:

  • Park at Landmark colony, Dimapur,
  •  Children’s park at New Reserve, Kohima, 
  • Construction of footpath in Dimapur under implementation,
  • Cess Pool vehicle for Dimapur under ‘Sewerage and Septage Management, Dimapur’,
  •  Drainage in Forest colony, Kohima,
  •  Drainage below Naga Hospital, Kohima,
  •  Drainage at SKV petrol pump to Bouzürü,
  • CRSM drainage from NH-2 to Lower AG Colony, Kohima.

The department also informed that under ‘10% lump sum scheme projects’, there are seven on-going projects under Urban Development department. However, it stated, the “ongoing projects could not attain much progress owing to non-receipt of the state share, which is 10%”.

But two projects namely: construction of integrated housing and slum development at Kezocha town in Nagaland; and construction of RCC T-Beam Bridge over Dhansiri River, Dimapur has made commendable progress, it stated.

The department also informed that the urban population of the state today comprises of 29%, concentrating in 32 statutory towns and 6 census towns of Nagaland; while the national average is 31.16%.

“Taking into account the fast urban growth of 66.70% of the state, it is expected to cross above national rate which has propelled from 28.53% during 2001 to 31.16% during 2011 census count within 2.33% growth rate,” it stated.
