With every passing day, split in Naga society is accentuated more

Dimapur, Oct. 15 (EMN): Divisions in Naga political as well as social spectrums become more pronounced every day, triggered by the uncertainty that continues to surround the fate of Indo-Naga talks even as hectic parleys are currently underway.

The NSCN (IM) has made it clear that it won’t accept a solution that doesn’t come attached with a Naga flag and a constitution. It has also, more or less, rejected the three-month deadline given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the interlocutor, RN Ravi.

Recently, the Naga Hoho has backed the stand taken by NSCN (IM); terming the three-month deadline as unacceptable. It also asserted that ‘any accord’ that does not honour the Nagas’ legitimate rights for integration, separate Naga flag and constitution is neither honourable nor acceptable.

On the other hand, the working committee of NNPGs involved in negotiation with Ravi has made clear its readiness for solution; with the suffix that any contentious issue could be pursued democratically post-solution.

On Tuesday, the Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) issued a statement reiterating its stand that “when land integration is not possible at the moment, we cannot opt for population integration.”

It expressed hope that the years of political talks between the government of India and the Naga negotiators is about to be brought to its logical solution.

“The NTC therefore, once again appeals to all the negotiators to be magnanimous and bold enough to hammer out the positive result without hesitation or delay but within the scheduled time. The NTC also appeals, to particularly the Naga negotiators, to contain any amount of irritations at the moment for the sake of paving the way for solution and not to be reactionary as such will boomerang against ourselves,” read the statement.

According to the council, ‘as and when Nagas attain sovereignty and integration there will be demographic changes’, till then the state of Nagaland will remain as it is rather than ceasing to exist.
