Imphal, Jan. 18 (EMN): An indefinite economic blockade imposed on the Imphal-Dimapur road along National Highway (NH) 2, by the Senapati District Truck Drivers’ Association, Senapati District Drivers’ Union, and Senapati District Drivers’ Welfare Union from January 16 midnight has been lifted.

The three unions had imposed an economic blockade along NH-2 following the state government’s failure to dismiss Th Hitler Singh, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of the state Police department, from his service within 48 hours after his misbehaviour with a truck driver was caught on camera and widely circulated on January 14.

The unions have given a 15-day ultimatum to the state government to initiate a departmental enquiry into the incident and terminate Singh from his service.

It also cautioned that if the state government failed to meet their demand within the given dateline, the economic blockade will be continued, sources said.

The decision was taken in a meeting attended by Chief Minister N Biren Singh and Tribal and Hills Areas Development, Fisheries Minister N Kayisii and functionaries of three Senapati-based unions.

Acknowledging the misbehaviour of the police officer, the Police department has reportedly suspended Singh from his service till further order.
