Imchaba Master Memorial Nagaland Open Volleyball Trophy underway

Dimapur, Sep. 17 (EMN): The 14th edition of Imchaba Master Memorial Nagaland Open Volleyball Trophy 2019, organised by Mokokchung District Volleyball Association (MDVA), got underway at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex in Mokokchung on Tuesday, September 17.

The tournament was declared open by Rajesh Soundararajan, President MDSC and deputy commissioner, Mokokchung as the inaugural patron, stated the media and event promotion committee of MDVA in a press statement on Tuesday.

In his speech Soundararajan said that he was a volleyball player himself and played for more than fifteen years in his prime years. He congratulated the MDVA for successfully organising the tournament and for the commendable job in promoting volleyball and making sure the youngsters get the best of opportunities.

He appealed the players not to limit their capabilities at just the district level but to go beyond it, and aim for the national and international level. He also encouraged the players to maintain discipline which should come from within.

Altogether, nine teams including two teams from Dimapur and Zunheboto are participating in the event. The teams are divided into two pools and the league-cum-knock out matches will be played accordingly. The teams in pool A are Chantongya Volleyball Association – A, Contender Club, Ajiqa, DEF, Mokokchung, Longsa Sports Association, and Amy United, Khensa. The teams in Pool B are Sakutemjen Memorial Club, Chungtiayimsen, and Sukushomi Club, Dimapur,

In the first match of the tournament,  Changtongya Volleyball Association A beat Contender Club, Ajjiqa 25-11; 32-30; 25-13.
