Dimapur, March 21 (EMN): The Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) organised a mass destruction programme of “illegal drugs and other psychotropic substance” as part of its “indefinite war” against substance abuse at its office headquarters in Mon town on March 21.

According to a press statement issued by the union on Saturday, the programme was conducted by KSU along with the Joint Action Committee (JAC) against drug abuse and supply, in the presence of the district administration, district executive force, Konyak Union (KU), Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong (KNSK) and Committee on Drugs Addiction Mitigation and Prevention (CoDAMP).

The JAC, which started the operation on March 3, expressed resentment over the increasing number of drug abusers and suppliers in Mon district.

The KSU has warned the suppliers/peddlers, including college students and underage youngsters, of stern action, it read.

The union stated, “Mon district being located at international and state borders, smuggling of such illegal drug is rampant and many youngsters have been exposed to the social evil.” It has also appealed to the concerned authorities and individuals to “support and co-operate with the union and join hands in its fight against drug.” It has also appealed to all its sub-ordinate units to be alert, carry on the operation in their respective jurisdictions and strictly adhere to the directive from the union.
