Mokokchung, May 14 (EMN): A handloom expo was inaugurated by Mokokchung’s subdivision officer (civil) Thungchanbemo Tungoe on Tuesday at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex in Mokokchung town.
The event is being sponsored by the handloom development commissioner’s establishment, ministry of Textiles.
The Nagaland Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation (NHHDC), a Nagaland government undertaking, organized the expo.
The event has about 50 stalls set up by weavers’ societies, self help groups and entrepreneurs from various parts of the country displaying their work and handloom products.
According to S Meren Ao, deputy manager of Project NHHDC, the expo sales’ turnover during the previous year was profitable for the participants. He asserted that such kind of avenues provide self help groups and upcoming entrepreneurs to ‘share inputs on product designing, pricing and quality.’
The officer added that the expo was a launching pad for participants to explore better business channels to market, even export, their products on a bigger scale.
Ao added that the handloom involves using traditional handloom products in contemporary designs to make them more marketable.
