Kohima, April 8 (EMN):
Green Team Kohima (GTK) is now going beyond cleaning and beautifying the state capital and advocating plastic-free Nagaland to something different through its ‘Coronavirus Reach Out Fund’ (CROF) that was initiated by the team to reach out to the families in need.

This was confirmed to Eastern Mirror by a member of the Green Team Kohima, Atunuo Hiekha, who stated that the idea of reaching out to the needy was conceived when the lockdown was imposed by the government due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic .

She said that they initially doubted on flow of fund for the mission but the team decided to go ahead after some friends offered help. She added that a members of the team were first donors of the initiative.

Hiekha asserted that from among the 19 wards in Kohima, 10 families from each ward were identified with the help of the ward leaders. People started donating cash to the bank account number provided by the team in its leaflets. She added that an anynomous person even donated INR 30,000 towards the cause.

On the response, the member shared that people willingly donated by reposing trust upon the team in reaching out to the needy and some even volunteered to distribute the rations.

A package of the ration for each beneficiary contains 25 kg of rice along with packet of lentils, refined oil and others worth INR 1200.

The team has extended their gratitude to the donors from various corners for sharing their love.

“We called this as a humane movement because this is out of pure compassion and love,” the team said.

It was also informed that the team come across families undergoing difficult circumstances due to illness.

Sourcing becomes a challenge

Hiekha maintained that ‘sourcing has become a challenge for the team now as many people have resorted to panic buying.’ She added that shopkeepers were also not willing to give rations in bulk even though the team informed them that it is for charity.
