Government creates new department Tribal Affairs

Dimapur, Aug. 13 (EMN): The Nagaland government has created a new department, Tribal Affairs.

The government publicity agency, the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR), issued updates on Tuesday informing about the new department and its composition.

The department will have the following functions and duties as listed out by the IPR:

Tribal research institute
(i) The scheme “Support to Tribal Research Institutes (TRI) 2017”.
(ii) Scheme of centers of excellence.

Livelihood support
(i) Schemes for institutional support for development and marketing of tribal products.
(ii) Scheme for minimum support price for minor forest produce modified with effect from 31/10/2016.
(iii) Equity support to NSTFDC/STFDCs.

Non-governmental organisations
(i) Vocational training centers in tribal areas.
(ii) Scheme of grant-in-aid to voluntary organisations working for welfare of STs.
(iii) Scheme of development of particularly vulnerable tribal groups.
(iv) Scheme of strengthening education among ST girls in a low literacy district.

State grants
(i) Special central assistance to tribal sub scheme.
(ii) Grants under Article 275 (1) of the Constitution of India.
(iii) Eklavya Model Residential Schools.
(iv) Vocational training centers in tribal areas.
(v) Establishment of ashram schools in tribal sub-plan areas.
(vi) Centrally sponsored scheme for hostels for ST boys and ST girls.

Personnel
One assistant director on re-deployment.
One office superintendent-accounts on ‘redeployment’ from Treasuries & Accounts department.
Two UDA on ‘re-deployment’ from the departments.

(h) Creation of four LDA-computer assistant posts.
(i) Creation of three office multitasking assistant, grade-IV.
(j) Creation of two posts of driver.

The central division of the Works & Housing department will supervise all civil works in the Tribal Affairs department, the IPR stated.

“In order to discharge the functions of the department, the Finance department will provide a separate demand number with all head of accounts and RFC number to complete formalities with the accountant general’s office to facilitate financial transactions,” the IPR stated.

“The ongoing project and the projects already sanctioned will be implemented by the Planning department. However, for the current year projects, arrangement will be decided by the two departments with approval of the chief minister. This has the approval of the Cabinet vide Cabinet Secretariat (Cabinet Cell) Office Memorandum No. CAB-2/2013 (Pt) dated 3rd August 2019,” the IPR added.
