Gorkha youth observe 205th Bhanu jayanti

Dimapur, July 14 (EMN): Chümoukedima Gorkha Youth (CGY) celebrated the 205th birth anniversary of Adikavi Bhanubhakta Acharya at Chümoukedima Town Hall on July 13.

The programme began with floral tributes to the poet followed by Shardhanjali by pandit Subhas Parajuli and recitation of Bhanu Bhakta poem by Nicky Tamang, CGY finance secretary. Beckey Panthy chaired the open session, while Robert Aley, pastor of Nepali Baptist Church, Chümoukedima, highlighted the significance of the celebration and the welcome address was proposed by MB Raut, CGY executive member.

A total of 20 meritorious HSLC, HSLC and Graduate-level candidates were also felicitated on the occasion.

During the programme, many traditional events were presented by students including band performances by the Gorkha bands of Chumoukedima town.

Thejavizo Nakhro, EAC Chümoukedima; Bietuo Hama, former chairman of Chümoukedima village council; representatives from Chümoukedima Town Youth Organisation, Chümoukedima Town Students’ Union, Chümoukedima Hindu Yuva, Gorkha Youth Club Dimapur, and many individuals and dignitaries participated at the opening session.

Addressing the gathering, NPP general secretary Sasank Ghatraj stressed on the need to conserve culture in a positive manner. He stated that the contribution of Adikavi Bhanu Bhakta Acharya has been one of the most momentous contributions to language and society. He added that Adikavi Bhanu Bhakta Acharya’s sense of responsibility towards the society should always be engraved in history.

He proclaimed that “Unity in diversity” is the strength of Nagaland and encouraged the Gorkha youth to continue upholding the cultural principle even in the days to come. He further expressed gratitude to all for their valuable contribution towards making the celebration a success.

Also speaking on the occasion, EAC Chümoukedima Thejavizo Nakhro urged all to uphold positive influence and suggested practicing valuable ethics rather than just success. He congratulated all the awardees and requested all the students and the youth to “be the pilot of their own lives” and steer themselves to achieve success in life.

The programme also saw presentation of various awards and honours to several illustrious personalities for their service in their respective fields.

Sanu Thapa, CGU cultural secretary, thanked all for their participation and making the celebration event a grand success.
