In a world overrun by zombies, humanity is on the brink of extinction and the last human survivors are trying to band together to rebuild society and get rid of all the zombies. Fortnight is set in a post-apocalyptic world where everyone has to work together to kill zombies, protect civilians and build the best base you can in the most creative way. Sure, this game is best played online with a group of up to four players, but you can play solo as well if you’re a lone wolf and complete missions which will consist of various objectives such as collecting certain stuff and obviously Fortify and Defend your base. The great thing about this game is that you can build any kind of base and you will only be limited by your imagination. This game is a lot like Minecraft, but you will not be working with pixelated blocks, instead you will have to collect different resources such as wood, metal and minerals to build awesome structures and along with these structures, you can set traps and other defenses based on schematics which you can collect as you progress further into the game.
There are different roles which you can take up such as Constructors – the main builders with access to the best structures and schematics, Solders – who are the shoot em ups type of characters and work best at the front line, Outlanders – who happen to be the best at finding resources, and Ninjas – who are fast and can take out deadly targets quickly. All these characters can build structures, mine resources and obviously fight but some characters are better at certain things than others. There is a skill tree which you must manage to improve your skill with a particular character, say for example if you love building structures, you can play as the builder and improve the builder’s skill tree and you will unlock new classes and new abilities, along with better skills which will help you build better structures. The best way to play this game is to pick a role and keep upgrading because the further you venture into advanced levels, you will definitely need better abilities to defend your base. Building a well defended base is crucial since it will determine whether you win or lose the mission and since the base is the main area where you can gather survivors who will in turn help you defend as well against the zombie hoard. Keep in mind that this hoard is massive! Especially in advanced levels where they will seem like they never end and there are many different types of zombies all the way from tiny zombies to big fat zombies and witches and grenadiers and all these zombies have different abilities as well, so teamwork is important to take them all down.
Building bases is just as simple as point and click and you can build literally any type of thing anywhere, and the game encourages you to use your imagination to build magnificent structures or if you’re lazy, you can just build randomly. But whichever the case, you can literally build castles with tall towers if you want, or a simple shack to protect against the zombie hoard and you will get a specified amount of time before the hoard attacks so you have to build as much as you can before the time runs out to make sure that you can withstand the attack.
During missions, you can go out and collect resources from nearby areas where you will encounter sleeping zombies and once the shooting begins, they’ll all wake up and start attacking you so it’s best to quietly surround them before you attack. As for the resources, you can chop down any tree or smash rocks or simply go into caves which will definitely be crawling with zombies but on the plus side, there might be treasures as well. So, exploring areas in this game can be quite fun and obviously, the loot you gain from these explorations are always awesome. And with these loots, you can not only build your base, but you can upgrade your weapons as well and there are a lot of weapons to play around with, you can get swords, rifles, shotguns, snipers, rockets, traps, poison darts and some other crazy weapons which you can upgrade as per your style. All these weapons and traps have a lifetime, meaning it might jammed and traps will get used up but you can always craft and repair everything with the resources you gather or the loots you gain, and speaking of loots, you can get all kinds of loots from different sources. The first place for getting loot is obviously while exploring places, but you will also get loot after every mission or by smashing lamas after missions which are basically piñatas you can smash to get different loots and they can offer great stuff sometimes if you’re lucky.
There are hundreds of missions which you can play and all the levels have great replay value and I can guarantee that this game is going to keep you hooked for a long time and I may be wrong, but I think this game is going to become the next big thing since it’s so darn awesome and players may soon compete against who has the most creative base.
