Football coaching camp for ‘grassroots level’ underway in Kohima

Kohima, Aug. 10 (EMN): A free football coaching camp for children of Kohima village of the age group 6-12 years got underway on Saturday at Christ King Higher Secondary School ground.

The year-long coaching camp is being organised by Light Club of P Khel of Kohima village.

Dzüvinguzo Mepfhüo, President, Kohima Village Youth Organisation (KVYO) declared the coaching camp open as the event’s special guest.

Mepfhüo, who also unveiled the official football and jerseys of the young trainees at the launch of the football camp, expressed happiness over the initiative taken by Light Club members.

Lauding the organisers for the undertaking, the youth president said such a camp would enable and take aspiring footballers to a higher level of the game.

While asking the budding players to obey their coaches, Mephfüo urged them to give their best during the year-long training camp with zeal so that more promising players would emerge who would bring fame to their community one day.

He also advised the little ones to train hard and further hoped to see them even in the annual village level sub-junior and junior tournaments jointly conducted by Kohima Village Youth Organisation and Kohima Village Students’ Union next year.

Briefing on the sports camp, Neirükuo Rutsa said the coaching would be conducted by the three State coaches-Ruopfü Meyase, Kevilebei Zhashümo, Dziesesakuo David Rutsa, while Kezevituo Vizo as an assistant coach.

He informed that once in awhile, players would have the opportunity of experiencing the coaching and the game in the state’s astro-turf playground at the IG Stadium.

A total of 21 days starting from Saturday, the coaches would impart professional training to the players every Saturday at 2 pm for at least one hour or so till the end of the year.

The registration desk recorded about 35 boys and 3 girls so far taking part in the coaching camp while the organisers have extended the registry for another week and invited interested players.

Meanwhile, Light Club have acknowledged Kovi Meyase, CEO of Kohima Smart City Dev Ltd. for the financial assistance.
