Dimapur, Oct. 12 (EMN): The Food Safety unit of the Health & Family Welfare department conducted a programme about food safety besides a licensing and registration event for food business operators on Oct. 9 and the 10th in Kiphire town.
The establishment of the chief medical officer at Kiphire issued a press release on Saturday informing about the programme.
According to the updates, the resource persons demonstrated sample tests for detection of some common food items. People can use the tests in their own kitchens. The tests were demonstrated to accredited social health activists and some school children, the press release stated.
Also, District Programme Officer Dr. K Pewezo Khalo urged the school children there to ‘apply food safety practices’ at homes and spread the message of its importance to the community. He appealed to the community to be alert about adulterated food and to report it to the authorities for appropriate action if any cases are detected.
Similar programmes on food safety awareness were also conducted with frontline health workers in Kiphire district, the press release stated.
