Mokokchung, March 18 (EMN):
“Fazl Ali College (FAC), the only college with Science stream in Mokokchung district, has been making hand sanitisers to keep their staff and students safe from the threat of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) since March first week,” an assistant professor informed on Wednesday.

The students along with the teaching faculty from the department of Chemistry and Botany have been preparing the hand-rub solutions for our college and employees for biometric fingerprint attendance and college hand washing areas since March first, stated associate professor Naomi.

She added that Botony lab has been using the sanitiser for tissue culture and mushroom spawn. She stated they have decided to prepare the sanitiser in bulk and distribute it free of cost following reports of hand sanitiser scarcity in the market due to its increase in demand.

It was informed that the departments of Botany and Chemistry started producing it in larger quantity since last Monday as per the World Health Organisation (WHO) specification.

She added that 25 litres of sanitiser was prepared and distributed to Dr. Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital (IMDH), government offices, district administration and churches around Mokokchung town on March 18.

It was also informed that the sanitisers were prepared through the funds allocated to the two departments of FAC.

“We are ready to produce the hand sanitiser in bulk to help the people,” said the professor.

Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, Imtiwabang Jamir, expressed gratitude to the students and faculty for coming forward to help the people of Mokokchung.

He also informed that the district administration had procured chemicals and solutions, which would be handed over to FAC to prepare more sanitisers to be distributed in banks, offices and other public areas.

Apart from the shortage of hand sanitisers, he stated that there was an acute shortage of surgical masks.

He added that the district task force has been activated and closely monitoring every development in the district.

“We had a meeting with ABAM and Mokokchung Town Pastors Fellowship in the wake of this pandemic today and hopefully the churches and civil society render every possible cooperation to arrest this deadly virus,” he said.

Jamir also asserted that even though resources were limited, the district administration was on a war footing to contain the pandemic virus by using the resources judiciously.
