Dimapur, Jan. 22 (EMN): The village adoption committee of Kigwema along with the department of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry imparted training in ‘scientific methods of livestock rearing,’ besides conducting a vaccination camp on January 21 in the village council hall of Kigwema in Kohima

The district cultural officer of the department of Art & Culture, Kevingulie Tachü spoke about the importance of preserving traditional practices. He said it is not just about traditional attires, folk dance and songs but ‘the need to practice and preserve the noble characteristics and principles which marked the past generations from the rest.’

Speaking about some past practices and principles ‘which were strictly followed,’ Tachü lamented that ‘with modernity many noble characteristics have been discarded which is also one of the reasons for the sad state of work culture prevailing today.’ He exhorted the older generation to teach the young to preserve culture and traditions.

During the training programme in livestock rearing, Chief Veterinary Officer Joseph M Angami emphasised on the need to expand livestock rearing not just for domestic consumption but also as an alternative source of livelihood, the updates stated.

Atouzo Pienyü trained the villagers in ‘scientific rearing of poultry’ while Khriesamhazo George Rhetso taught technique in rearing pigs, the IPR stated. The vaccination camp recorded a total of 60 anti-rabies vaccination, 52 treatments for livestock related ailments, and 170 treatments related to swine, the IPR stated.
