Dimapur, May 21 (EMN): Twelve villages in Pughoboto sub-division, in Zunheboto district, are reported to have been affected by an infestation of the Fall armyworm on crops in said area.
According to a verification report stated to have been provided by the subdivision agriculture officer of Pughoboto, Myanthung Patton, crops in most of the villages there are under severe infestation while some cases have been observed to be moderate, the IPR stated.
The government’s publicity agency, the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR), reported on Tuesday the matter.
Pest infestation was seen in the whorls of the leaves by larvae, the IPR stated.
“The department has been intervening as soon as the incidence was reported by the farmers by imparting training and providing inputs like bio control (Metarhizium anisopliae), Emamectin benzoate and sprayers. Farmers are also advised to handpick larvae and destroy egg mass manually. The Department is monitoring and supervising round the clock to control further spreading,” the IPR stated.
