Kohima, Dec. 18 (EMN): Excel Boys Club from Thenyizu village emerged champions of the first ‘Football Open Tournament’ organised by Rikhuba Youth Organisation, held at Chozuba in Phek district.
The weeklong tournament was held on the theme ‘uplifting the spirit of brotherhood through sports’.
In the final match played on Wednesday, Excel Boys defeated Defenders FC Chozuba Town by 5-2 to lift the cup.
The champions received a cash prize of INR 35,000, while the runner up received INR 15,000.
Lhiwete Koza of Excel Boys and Toh Shijoh of Defenders FC were adjudged the best custodian and player of the tournament respectively.
