Dimapur, Feb. 7 (EMN): The Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) has once again urged the government of Nagaland to convene a special assembly session “before it is too late” to review and pass an assembly resolution “as per the provision under Article 371(A) of the Indian Constitution” opposing the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill “in order to avoid any adverse repercussion upon its people in the near future.”

This was contained in an “open letter” to the president of India and the government of Nagaland, which was made available to the press on Thursday. “As resolved by the six tribes namely, Chang, Khiamniungan, Konyak, Phom, Sangtam and Yimchunger under the aegis of Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation to totally oppose the BJP-sponsered controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) 2016, the ENPO has urged upon the president of India to take into account the desire and wishes of the people.

“The customary practices of the Nagas as enshrined in Article 371(A) of the Indian Constitution do not give citizenship to anybody basing on any religion. As such, the govt. of India should take cognisance of the voices of the people,” the “letter” read.

It asserted that the ENPO would oppose the Bill “tooth and nail” to the legitimate rights of the Nagas.
