Dimapur, Oct. 15 (EMN):
With the objective to empower women, Nagaland Police Family Welfare Association (NPFWA) in collaboration with the Nagaland State Social Welfare Board (NSSWB) launched an intensive skill development on garment production at the Durbar Hall, 4th NAP Battalion, Thizama in Kohima district, on October 15.

The training programme was inaugurated by Meyisangla Longkumer, NPFWA president and the special guest. While exuding confidence on the potential of its pilot project, she hoped to extend to other districts for families of Nagaland police personnel.

T John Longkumer, Director General of Police, who also attended the programme, has termed it as a step towards economic empowerment and a way for police families to improve their economy.

Bano Vinito, chairperson of NSSWB, stressed on the need to find ways towards empowering the wives of police personnel and how they should augment their spouses incomes. Daisy Mezhur, secretary of NSSWB, added that economic independence is the first step towards women empowerment.

An update from NPFWA stated that 30 trainees comprising wives and children of police personnel from 4th NAP battalion would be imparted 30 days intensive training on tailoring in the first phase.
