Dr. T Ao award: Union chips in support for football coach

Dimapur, Aug. 18 (EMN): A union has denounced what it stated was the discrimination meted out to a football coach to deny him the Dr. T Ao Sports Award.

The Khughovi Local Students’ Union (KLSU) issued a press release on Sat. Aug. 18, through its president and general secretary, criticizing the state for what it stated a football coach Mughato Sumi being denied the award. The union stated that the coach had brought laurels to the state and the country.

The press release also stated that Mughato Sumi is a recipient of the Governor’s Gold Medal for 2015, and also a recipient of other awards in the field of football at both national and international levels.

The union questioned the chief minister of Nagaland as to why Mughato Sumi was denied the Dr. T Ao Sports Award. The union wondered if there were criteria based on community or “Is it that in Nagaland, results and achievements are not recognized through merit but through favoritism which was the case in respect of Mughato Sumi.”

The KLSU has requested the chief minister to thoroughly investigate as to why ‘this type of partiality’ had been meted out. The union hoped that the matter may be taken on priority ‘so that justice may prevail’ for citizens to ‘believe in the government.’
