District level football tournament held in Kiphire

Dimapur, Aug. 17 (EMN): The (late) Captain N Kenguruse, Mahavir Chakra, Memorial district level football tournament organised by the Kiphire Battalion of Assam Rifles concluded at the DC ground, Kiphire on Aug. 16.

The football tournament was formally inaugurated by Longdiba L Sangtam, NCS, SDO (Civil), Kiphire on Aug. 8.

According to a press release, the tournament was aimed at fusing the indomitable Naga spirit and the passion of Naga youth for football, so that the young sporting talent of the state can get an avenue to rise and shine as professional footballers.

After a wearing out and tough league cum knock out rounds, among 11 equally poised teams, Legend Club defeated defending champion Abide FC to lift the maiden title. With this win, Legend Club pocketed a cash prize of INR 25000 along with the winner’s trophy. Runners-up Abide FC team bagged a prize money of INR 15000. Throngjumong of Abide FC team was adjudged the best goal keeper and Ahocho of United Viking was declared best player. Both were given a cash prize of INR 2500 each. Alem Tep of Legend FC team who was adjudged the best goal scorer was also presented with a cash prize of INR 2500.

Legend Club and champion Abide FC will now represent Kiphire district in the forthcoming state level Captain (late) N Kenguruse, Mahavir Chakra, Memorial tournament scheduled to be held from Sept. 10 onwards.
