District election personnel practice vote counting

Dimapur, May 21 (EMN): District election machineries are gearing up to count votes that were cast in the Lok Sabha elections for 2019 and in Mokokchung district, the by-elections to the 26th Aonglenden assembly constituency. The counting is scheduled for May 23.

The government’s publicity agency, the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR), offered updates on Tuesday about said electoral activity.

The administration in Mokokchung led by the district’s election officer Rajesh Soundararajan, organised a training and rehearsal programme for counting supervisors, counting assistants and micro observers in connection with counting of votes for Lok Sabha election and by-elections. The rehearsal was conducted in the town hall of Mokokchung.

Soundararajan was stated to have told the election officials that counting of votes being one of the important stages of election process, everyone must ensure correct and proper counting of the votes. He asked the officials to report on time i.e., 7:00 am.

In connection with the vote counting Soundararajan has informed all in concern that the Election Commission of India had fixed the commencement of counting from 8:00 am on May 23, at the town hall of Mokokchung.

During the counting, only the following persons will be allowed to enter the counting hall as stipulated by the ECI. They will be allowed in on production of valid ID card issued by the authority: counting supervisors and counting assistants; persons authorized by the Election Commission carrying letter duly authorized by the ECI; public servants on duty in connection with the election, candidates, their agents and counting agents, the IPR stated.

Further, the election administration ordered, mobile phones or any other device will not be allowed inside the counting centre.

The Kiphire district administration also organised a similar programme to train counting officials and micro observer. The event was conducted at the deputy commissioner office on May 21, the updates stated.

The district election officers encouraged the counting officials to “clear their doubts for smooth counting exercise,” the IPR explained.
