[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Directorate of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry (V&AH) today commissioned its 10 KW solar photovoltaic power plant set up by the New & Renewable Energy department Kohima. Addressing the gathering, Director of N&RE TS Angami said his department has been working to install solar power plants in all the government departments.
Stating that 47 government departments are yet to have such plants due to fund constraints, he, however, asserted that the New & Renewable Energy department is contemplating to commission solar power plants in all the government departments by the end of this year.
V&AH Directorate received the solar power plant as part of the N&RE project to install solar power plants, he said.
Highlighting that the state immensely suffers from shortage of power supply from November to April every year, he said the State can only produce 24 KV power while the actual requirement during peak hour is 120 KV.
Therefore, he suggested that in order to meet the shortfall, not only government departments but other private office and houses should opt for solar power plants to avoid load shedding during peak hours. He informed that except for heaters and other heavy electrical appliances, 10 KW solar plant is sufficient for major departments to have light and run computers, printers and fax.
He also claimed that for the last two years N&RE has not been using the power supplied by Power department but has been running on solar plant and thereby avoiding payment of huge electricity bills.
Director of V&AH Dr. M. Timothy Lotha, lauding the N&RE department for commissioning the power plant, stated that if awareness is created and people starting solar plants, it would help reduce the demand for power supply.
Additional Director of V&AH Dr RT Ezung chaired the programme while Joint Director Dr SA Walling delivered the welcome address and Deputy Director Dr. I. P. Khala tendered the vote of thanks.
