I know, it’s a terrible name for a smartphone and you wouldn’t want to brag about the name of it since it sounds more like something that came out of a dumpster in China, but bear with me because this phone has a unique feature which no other phone in the world has got and that unique feature is a molecular scanner! Yup, it has something called SCiO molecular identification technology on the back of the device which can scan the molecular structure of an object.

This scanner can be used for many different purposes, such as finding out if a fruit is sweet before you even take a bite, or find out if a medicine is real or fake and you can easily find out just how many calories that ice cream cone has got, it can even scan your body to find out how much fat you have beneath your skin, the possibilities are endless.
uploaded 7Announced back in January 2017 at the International Consumer Electronics Show, the Changhong H2 grabbed a lot of attention and it’s almost time to unveil the product to the general public so now is the right time to talk about this phone. So, the big question you may be asking is just how does this weirdly named device work? Well, the SCiO scanner sends out infrared light and when this light hits an object, it will bounce back into the scanner and since the reflected light will consist of the molecular structure of the object, the SCiO scanner picks up this data and analyze it using the data from a cloud source to give you an easily understandable information. This technology has already been tested out in the form of a product by the same company called the SCiO sensor, a small hand held device which connected to the phone via bluetooth and although this device had the right tech, it seemed impractical since you had to carry an extra device along with you and so, the phone seems like a more viable option.
Aside from the molecular scanner, which is obviously the unique feature, the phone looks like an ordinary android device with a 6 inch full HD display, a decent 2.0 GHz Octa core processor, dual sim support with 4G LTE, a 16 Megapixel rear camera, an 8 Megapixel front facing camera with 64 GB on board storage and it will come with Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The battery on this phone will pack a 3000 mAh which is good enough for everyday use. It may not have the best specification and it certainly looks like an ordinary Android phone but no one can call this phone ordinary and since it will be priced at around Rs. 30,000, you may need to think about it for a while before you purchase it.
Coming back to the SCiO scanner, the app which controls the scanner is very simple and easy to use. When you launch it, you will be greeted with a menu where you can choose what type of object you want to scan and say you choose an apple, you will be instructed to place the scanner on top of the fruit and when you press the scan button, it will take a few seconds to give you information such as sweetness level. You can also directly find out the amount of calories in a particular food or beverage and check the alcohol level in a glass of wine. And using the same scanner, you can scan meat to find out if they have been injected with other elements, which sounds extremely helpful especially with all the buzz going around social media regarding food being injected with chemicals.
The Changhong H2 also has the capability to help us with our health and for now, it can only scan our body fat ratio which can either be a boost to your moral or it may be insulting, but either way you take it, no one can deny that it will be helpful to know the body fat ratio and exercise accordingly. To check the body fat ratio, all you need to do is launch the app and place the phone in your biceps and the app will scan the area and tell you just how much fat you have stored in your body.
Obviously, the medical applications may not end with basic fitness scanning and developers may soon come up with more advanced features to help you with other ailments in the near future. If this project continues to go forward, we may soon see these type of additions in future smartphones which will have the capabilities to take care of your health in a way that was only possible in sci-fi movies. So, the next time you buy an apple and want to know if there is candle wax coating the outer layer of it, simply whip out the Changhong H2 phone and it will probably tell you that this is not an apple, it’s candle!
