DC Kohima seeks cooperation from political parties

Dimapur, Aug. 13 (EMN): Deputy Commissioner (DC) and District Election Officer (DEO), Kohima, Gregory Thejawelie, urged upon the representatives of the political parties to give due importance and active cooperation in carrying out the preparation of electoral rolls.
The DC stated this during a meeting with representative of political parties on August 13 in his office chamber. The meeting was called in connection with the Electors Verification Programme (EVP) and as part of the pre-revision exercise, an update from DIPR stated.

In the meeting, the DC stated that preparation of electoral roll was one of the most important exercises besides other election process as election takes place basing on the prepared electoral rolls.

He stated that it requires combine efforts to carry out thorough exercise in order to have an electoral rolls, which is complete in all aspects. He, therefore, impressed upon the representatives of the political parties to give due importance and active cooperation in carrying out the entire exercise in days to come.

In the ensuing Special Summary Revision of photo electoral rolls with January 1, 2020, as the qualifying date, DC stated that whoever reaches the age of 18 years by the qualifying date should find their names in the electoral rolls apart from correction/ deletion and inclusion to be made.

Highlighting on the pre-revision activities to be taken up under the exercise, he informed that the Electors Verification Programme would commence from September 1 to 30, during which necessary verification/ corrective measures would be taken up.

He also informed that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) would carry out house-to-house verification simultaneously from September 1 to 30. He added that provision of rationalisation of polling stations would also be taken up and draft publication of electoral roll would be done on October 15.

The DC also pointed out that besides the BLOs and other manpower appointed by the Election department, provision for appointment of Booth Level Agents (BLAs) by the political parties is also required to work hand in hand with the BLOs in order to strengthen the entire exercise. He hoped that all the political parties would give interest in making the exercise a success.

Assistant Election Officer, Toshimeren, also highlighted on the concept of the Electors Verification Programme and the roles of BLOs to be carried out in the exercise. He also requested the political parties to disseminate the information through their workers at different levels and to encourage the people to come forward and get verified during the exercise so as to have clean and error free electoral rolls.
