Dimapur, April 8 (EMN): The Dimapur Ao Lanur Telongjem/Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation (Dayo), on receiving complaints that Naga traders were being denied from buying vegetables at the wholesale market at Murgipatti in Dimapur and New Market GS Road, undertook spot verification on April 8.

The Dayo president Aotemsu Aier told Eastern Mirror that the organisation received complaints from Naga traders on April 7 that they were denied vegetables at the wholesale market claiming that the stocks were over while the non-Naga traders were seen purchasing the agricultural produce.

Taking cognizance of the incident, Dayo leaders went to the spot to streamline the situation and ensure fair release of goods for all traders during the time specified by the district administration, Aier said.

The Gaon Buras and the Dimapur Municipal Council were also said to be present to ensure smooth flow of business.

Aier said that Dayo ‘will continue to monitor and work for our fellow local citizens in days to come’. He added that people in distress can contact the organisation for help.

The organisation has also dispatched 175 bags of rice, 50 bags each of potato and onion, and 500 packets of salt to its 14 units within Dimapur, in order to reach out to the needy, the president said.

It may be mentioned that the Business Association of Nagas (BAN) had on April 7 alleged that many local buyers with authorisation letters from village councils and competent authorities were denied their share of purchases at the wholesale market in Dimapur. It also stated that the wholesale sellers were not willing to sell essential commodities to locals saying that there was no stock.
