Covid-19: Educational institutions including universities in Manipur suspended till March 31

Imphal, March 14 (EMN):
As a precautionary measure, Commissioner Higher and Technical Education M Harekrishna on March 13, issued an order to suspend classes of higher education institutes (both government and private) including universities under Higher and Technical Education department, with immediate effect till March 31.

In an order, commissioner said “as a precautionary measure, the governor is pleased to order that all classes shall remain suspended in all educational institutes of higher education (government, government aided and private) including universities under the administrative control of the department of Higher & Technical Education with immediate effect till March 31 ,2020 in public interest.”

All heads of office are requested to ensure compliance of the order, the order said.

On March 12, Manipur state authority has ordered all schools in the border state to remain closed till March 31 and also to ensures reduction of mass gathering.

Earlier, the state government also issued an order, restricting movement across international borders.

Hill Leaders’ Day, ‘Meeyamgi Numit’ postponed
Hill Leaders’ Day and ‘Meeyamgi Numit’ (People’s Day) have been postponed, as a precautionary measure against the Covid-19 outbreak. This was informed by the secretary to chief minister on Saturday.

The Hill Leaders’ Day and ‘Meeyamgi Numit’ are days where state chief minister meets general public to address their grievances. The meetings are held on 10th and 15th of every month.

Doctor couple, who returned from Saudi, quarantined in Assam
A doctor couple, who returned from Saudi Arabia recently, has been quarantined for fourteen days in their home in Assam’s Barpeta district, officials said on Saturday.

The couple, who work at the Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College and Hospital, will be under observation of the state health department for the next fourteen days, they said. All the necessary tests regarding coronavirus have been done and if any symptoms are found, necessary steps will be taken immediately, officials said.

The couple stays at a rented house in the Metuakuchi area of the Barpeta town.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has asked people to take precautions in the wake of the pandemic and not pay heed to any rumours.
