Conflict within Naga family has harmed us, says Swuro

Pfutsero, Jan. 21 (EMN): Former member of legislative assembly, Nuzota Swuro said on Tuesday that conflict within Naga family do more harm than any other kind in Naga society.

He was addressing the introductory session of the 71st general conference of the Chakhesang Students’ Union under the theme, “Fostering unity in diversity” on January 21.

“The conflict between Nagas and the government of India on demand for total succession or political sovereignty for the past seven decade had completely devastated our economy and progress,” Swuro said.

He asserted that many Naga youths and even veteran Naga freedom fighters had been massacred because of ‘factional supremacy, for personal gains, for power and leadership’. He added that the menace of conflict had rather toughened the spirit, not only to survive but also to thrive.

The students were encouraged to set goals and pursue them while also being realistic and practical. Swuro said that Chakhesang people were rich in culture, tradition, and their economy was more stable with terrace cultivation. “The indigenous technology of terrace cultivation is not inferior to any other advanced countries,” he added.

He also told the students to visit their roots, stating that the land was rich in biodiversity. He urged the educated youths to explore the marketing of other countries world and compete.

Swuro also pitched on the urgency of unity among the society. “It is bound to have differences and conflict with diversity,” he said, adding that conflict resolution can amicably resolve the differences within.

“If we want to be great people, let us forget our petty differences. Let us realise the beauty of living together,” said Swuro.

Pitching on globalisation, he said “there is certainly positive impact of globalisation in the advancement of humanity. But the negative impacts are also huge. He said social media has created confusion among the people, family and society. He also expressed concern on the menace of climate change and urged the gathering to raise awareness of the global issue.

The president of Lotha Students’ Union, Lipemo M Tsopoe extended solidarity of brotherhood with the Chakhesang community. He maintained that Nagas are rich in culture and tradition and called upon the society to live as one, despite variant communities.

The president of Chakhesang Mothers’ Association, Zhonelu Tunyi also exhorted the gathering and encouraged the students to be God-fearing; to use time judiciously and be hard working.

She also lamented that many youngsters are addicted to gadgets, and opined that it is hampering their future and the society in general. She asked them to cultivate work culture and competitive spirit.
