College students in Mon learn emergency drills

Home Guards and Civil Defence, Mon conducted mock drill demonstration and emergency method of rescue at Wangkhao College campus, in Mon on Feb. 20.

Dimapur, Feb. 28 (EMN): The Home Guards& Civil Defence of Mon in collaboration with the Disaster Management Committee of Wangkhao College conducted a drill demonstrating emergency tactics and rescue action on February 20 at Wangkhao College’s campus in Mon.

The department of Information and Public Relations (IPR) gave updates on February 20 informing about the drill.

The district commandant of Home Guards& Civil Defence at Mon, Ngongvai E Phom gave the keynote address. The official stated that the demonstration was to generate awareness and to encourage effective response to emergencies such as earthquakes, and accidents.

“Disaster is inevitable where we can only prepare ourselves on preparedness and response during the time of emergencies,” the IPR quoted him as having said.

The principal of Wangkhao Government College Dr. ML Ngullie appreciated the district commandant and his staff. The principal stated that awareness on emergency methods of rescue during times of natural disasters will be of great impact, the IPR stated.  He expressed gratitude to the organisers for giving awareness to the students and the faculty, the updates stated.

A brief explanation about earthquakes, its consequences and the preparedness measures were also highlighted during the event, the IPR stated. The various ways of knotting, bandaging, emergency rescue tactics among others were demonstrated, the updates stated.       

On February 14 too, the Home Guards& Civil Defence of Mon conducted a drill at the district jail of Mon, the IPR stated.
