Dimapur, April 8 (EMN):The Nagaland Development Outreach, the development wing of the Nagaland Baptist Church Council, has launched two programmes called the ‘child friendly environment programme’ and the ‘rural community health programme.’
The programs were launched on April 3 at the NDO-Human Resource Development Centre at Nikhekhu village in Dimapur, a press release from the organisation stated on Monday.
According to the press release the two projects will be intervening in 12 villages in Niuland block with the “sole objective to create a child friendly environment through strategic approach, by formation of children’s parliament to address Child Rights issues and to enhance children’s participation in decision making, resilience and life skills to protect and empower themselves.”
The programme will be implemented in collaboration with local churches, councils and village leaders and with the government, the NDO explained.
The program will aim to achieve ‘sustainable and appropriate child protection mechanism through creation of safe and just environments that nurture children for becoming good leaders to lead the community and society with high moral values and ethics.’
Another program which was launched on the day was the rural community health program in partnership with the Christian Institute of Health Science and Research, the updates stated.
The project is stated to be a pilot program with the twelve villages.
‘What we have experienced in the field is that there has been a huge disparity between the rural and urban set up when it comes to access to health facility. The government machineries are also not able to provide health facility in all the villages and also health centres are not close by,’ the press release stated.
‘This program will identify and train community health workers from each of the twelve villages who will be trained with basic health care and also collect village health information and upload the village health conditions for quick response.’
This program will also involve the church and the community ‘for participation and also taking ownership responsibility,’ the press release stated.
