Central team assures to address problems in eastern Nagaland

Dimapur, Sep. 11 (EMN): A Multi-Disciplinary Committee (MDC), which embarked on a tour of eastern Nagaland on Tuesday, has assured to look into the problems of the area, identify the gaps and present the ground reality to the central government. The central team also expressed hope to do justice to the grievances and problems presented to them.

This was informed by DIPR through a press release made available to the media on Wednesday.

A six-member team from the government of India visited Mon on Tuesday “to look into the developmental issues and special needs” of the district and a meeting was held with the district HoDs and representatives of civil societies at DC conference hall, Mon, informed the update.

DC Mon, Thavaseelan K gave a presentation of “Mon District at a Glance,” pointing out the “focus areas of development” such as Health, Education, Agriculture & Allied services, Tourism, opium and drug de-addiction and infrastructure. Meanwhile, superintendent of police, Mon, Imnalensa highlighted the problems pertaining to security scenario in the district.

Various departments such as Power, Medical, PWD, National Highways, Education, PHED, Agriculture, Horticulture, Land Resources, Wankhao Government College and Mon Government Higher Secondary School, and civil societies like Konyak Union and Konyak Woman Organisation presented their grievances and challenges to the committee.

The Central team that visited Mon comprised of Dr. AP Maheshwari, chairman & special secretary (Internal Security); Dr. Ashoke, director, RRC, NE, H&FW; Kabilan, director, NE, Niti Aayog; Henok Buchem, deputy secretary, government of Nagaland; Ajay Kumar, director, Drinking Water & Sanitation; and Arun Srivasta, DDG (DRD), Tourism.

Another four-member team visited Tuensang and convened a meeting with the district administration, and representatives of all district offices and civil societies in the DC Conference Hall Tuensang on September 10.

Departments like PWD (R&B), Highways, Education, Health and family Welfare were given chance to highlight their grievances and developments while line departments submitted their grievances in hard copies to the committee, informed DIPR. The deputy commissioner briefed on the district, while Orenthung K Kikon, EAC (P), presented the district’s profile and shortcomings, superintendent of police Bharat Lakshman Markad highlighted on the security/ law & order of the district, and Chang Khulei Setshang (CKS) president Nungsanglemba Chang addressed on the draft representation submitted to the MDC.

The team members – Rambir Singh, joint secretary DoNER; HC Mandal, chief engineer NE Zone; Anjana Dube, deputy director general, Finance Services; and Deepak Chanduka, DDG Telecommunication – said that the representation would be analysed and address the “much-needed shortfalls” at the earliest.

It may be mentioned that the Central team also visited other places like Tamlu in Longleng district, Thonoknyu in Tuansang and Tobu in Mon on Tuesday.
