Carrie’s Gents Salon, and the story of an orphan
Eastern Mirror Desk
Dimapur, Aug. 3: Carrie’s Gents Salon is the result of sheer determination, and hard work by Sentitemjen Imsong, a hairstylist who opened the enterprise on Sat. Aug. 3 at Firing Range in Dimapur.
A school dropout and an orphan, Imsong, ‘Carrie’ to his friends, was taken care of by relatives. After dropping out of school when he was in standard eight, he embarked on a journey to Goa to join his friends to work. He ended up working as a waiter to make ends meet.
Speaking to media persons during the opening of the salon, Imsong recounted that he ended up working in a salon by accident there. He had taken a job as a waiter after landing in the tourist hotspot. To make ends meet he started working at a salon which eventually inspired him to stick to the job.
There, Imsong gained the trust of his employers and thereby started working at a Spa. Later, he was sent to Russia to work there. He spent almost a year and a half in Russia working at a Spa, and saving enough money and returned home.
On his decision to return home, Imsong said it was time for him to return after spending almost a decade between Goa and Russia and to set up a business in his hometown, following his passion.
Imsong wants to motivate people who have dropped out of school, and unemployed youths, not to kill time seeking govt. jobs for survival. He wants them to try their hands on any available resources and learn new skills to their capacity repertoire.
The new salon was dedicated by Aoyimkum B Arogo’s associate pastor for women, I Asenla Jamir.
