Mokokchung, Dec 12 (EMN): Acute scarcity of fuel has surfaced in Mokokchung district in the immediate aftermath of the grim situation caused by anti-CAB protests across neighbouring Assam, and other Northeast states, on December 12.

In Mokokchung, many a panicked vehicle owners were seen rushing to the nearest fuel station to refill the tank. The district administration has issued a notice to every fuel stations in the town to provide seven litres of fuel per vehicle.

Hundreds of vehicles  were stranded in long queues, up to half a kilometre,at various fuel stations waiting for their turn to refill.

An official from Ongpangkong Petrol Pump Co-operative Society informed that rationing of fuels started at 8 am on Thursday; and the remaining amount at stock will be exhausted by late evening itself if the number of vehicles in need of refilling increase.

“Most of my men haven’t eaten their meal…we hardly have 2000 litres of both diesel and petrol,” said the official, adding that the station will be providing fuel till 8 pm.

However, he assured that two petrol trucks with a capacity of 9000 litres each will reach Mokokchung on December 13 afternoon; but there will be an acute shortage of diesel.

He expressed doubt that “even if two petrol trucks (18000 litres) will last only a day and a half even with rationing.”

Two fuel stations were already out of stock at the time of filing this report on Thursday evening in Mokokchung town.
