Dimapur, May 15 (EMN): Pannalal Sethi, born on 19th May, 1948, eldest son of late Kannayalal Sethi, “the first gaonbura of Dimapur” and brother of renowned doctor Bijoy Kumar Sethi left for his heavenly abode on 14th May, 2017 at Varanasi (UP) where he was participating in a religious ritual. News of the sudden demise sent shock waves amongst the citizens of Nagaland and entire Jain community, according to a press release issued on Monday.

“His life journey started from Kohima by running a shop and transcended himself as a well known business tycoon and a politician. He was a committed and a true social figure who devoted his life for the social and religious causes and welfare of the humanity. Being from a remote place like Dimapur he was always active and used to participate in the religious functions and in spreading the principles of peace and non violence throughout the country.

“He was the most renowned and popular figure in the entire global Jain community. Apart from being a trustee of Merchant Chamber of Commerce Dimapur, he was also founder trustee in many social and religious institutions”, the statement read.

He also remained as the state treasurer of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee for 12 consecutive years till 2010.

“He has left behind his wife Shrimati Devi, four brothers, two sisters and his two sons, Rajesh Kumar Sethi (Raju) and Rakesh Kumar Sethi (Ravi) and one daughter Babita Jain with numbers of grand children. People generally donate their wealth to attain name and fame, but he always believed in donating his time along with his wealth and therefore he is today a true legend for us to be remembered forever.

“Jain community has lost a precious Jewel and a powerful dynamic personality whose void cannot easily be filled for many ma,ny years. His last journey (funeral service) will start from his residence, KL Sethi Cottage, Old Daily Market, Dimapur on 16th May, 2017 from 1.30 pm onwards”, it informed.
