Dimapur, May 19

Business activities in Phek town came to a standstill today with all business houses downing their shutters in protest against the threats meted out to the business community and public of the town by an NSCN-K kilonser Thupuvezo Keyho. However, the bandh passed off peacefully and there was no report of any untoward indient.
The total Phek town shutdown was called by Phek Town Chamber of Commerce and Industries (PCCI) along with Phek Town Youth Society and Against Corruption and Unabated Taxation (ACAUT) Phek Unit to protest against the action of the senior NSCN-K functionary.
The NGOs after the shutdown resolved that in the event of any threats or any untoward action by any Naga political group in future, they will have no other option but to flush them (factions) out totally and no compromise will be done whatsoever. The NGOs also resolved to extend unwavering support to ACAUT Nagaland.A huge number of youth volunteered to extend unflinching support for success of the bandh as they wanted the public to be totally free from threats, extortion, harassment and illegal taxation, according to a release forwarded by ACAUT Nagaland.
The NGOs extended gratitude to the public for their support and bearing with them during the shutdown.
Meanwhile, Minister for Roads and Bridges Kuzholuzo Nienu (Azo) has expressed serious concern over the alleged threat meted out to the business community of Phek town thereby inviting the wrath of mass based organisations like ACAUT, Phek Town Youth Society (PTYS) and Phek Town Chamber of Commerce and Industries (PCCI) to protest by downing shutters and observing complete closure.
The minister has also questioned the inaction of Phek district administration and the law enforcing agencies against the ultras involved in anti-social practices.
Azo said such inaction in the face of such anti-social elements disrupting the prevailing peace cannot be accepted and urged the law enforcing agency to bring the culprit to book immediately and award befitting punishment.
The minister also has appreciated the efforts of ACAUT for its initiative to promote peace.
The ACAUT Nagaland also totally condemned the threat meted out to the business community of Phek town by the senior NSCN-K functionary.
In a release issued by its media cell today, the ACAUT Nagaland said members of the Phek Town Chamber of Commerce and Industries (PCCI), ACAUT Nagaland Phek Unit, Chakhesang elders and right thinking citizens are under tremendous threat from the said functionary and his boys for voicing against unabated taxation and anti-Naga activities of the kilonser.
Therefore, the release said, the ACAUT Nagaland totally supported the decision of Phek Town Youth Society (PTYS), PCCI and ACAUT Nagaland Phek Unit to down shutters of all business houses within Phek town today.
“It is beyond tolerance that the Kilonser intimidated the PCCI and ACAUT Nagaland Phek Unit by trying to forcefully restrain the business community from hosting ACAUT Nagaland rally held on 15th May, Phek town,” the release said.
However, it said, the citizens of Phek refused to be cowed down and successful held the rally shouting slogans in support of “One Government One Tax”.

The ACAUT Nagaland also questioned the anti-naga activities of the kilonser.
“The NSCN K leadership is asked to disown such anti-social leaders and apologise to the people of Phek failing which they may have to face people’s anger and ACAUT Nagaland shall not be held responsible,” the release added.
Meanwhile, the ACAUT Nagaland has lauded the All Commercial Vehicle Association (ACVA) Wokha District for organizing an important rally to highlight the issue of unabated taxation and adopting a 4-point resolution including “One Government One Tax”.
However, ACAUT Nagaland expressed dismay that instead of listening to the voices of the people some of the NPGs have started targeting the leaders instrumental in organising ACVA May 17 Rally.
“The NPGs should accept that ACVA as a matured body has understood that there can be no real peace and prosperity in our land as long as the factions remain divided, hence the adoption of One Government One Tax resolution as per the 31st October 2013 Naga public rally,” it said.
It further said any form of threats or intimidations against ACVA members will only worsen and alienate the NPGs further from the people while also stating that it is solidly behind ACVA and will not remain a silent spectator when these leaders are under threats.
