The second Bendangnungsang Longkumer and Er. Khriesavizo Metha (B&K) Memorial Awards function-cum-3rd Death Anniversary was held at Diphupar local ground in Dimapur on Friday. The programme was organised by the Diphupar Naga Students’ Union.

A total of 10 awards are given to people from different professions in recognition of the impact and service rendered to the people. It was initiated in memory of the two youths who were killed during the Urban Local Body (ULB) election imbroglio in 2017.

The recipients of the award for this year were: Rev. Dr. Phuveyi Dozo for literature, Merenla Imsong  for art, Chatravi Vipru for music, Vilarier Khate for sports, Country Craft for entrepreneurship, Artry Naga for promoter, Bright Morning Star Children Home for humanitarian works, Ronika Miachieo for the green, Tsuchoi T as the young achiever, and John Khangnyu for special mention

Speaking at the programme, the convenor of Joint Coordination Committee (JCC), Vekhosayi Nyekha, said that the government was yet to bring out the final JIC report, an incident that led to the killing of two Naga youths on January 31, 2017. He asserted that Nagaland Police was solely responsible for what happened three years ago.

‘Why are they (the government) sleeping over this issue?’ Nyekha asked.

Describing how loss of two lives opened the eye of many Nagas, he said the rights of the citizens are protected because of the two brothers who gave their everything, paving way for a bold Nagaland in fighting against corruption. He further urged the gathering to continue to support in fighting the good fight and added that the sacrifices made by the two brothers should never be allowed to go in vain.

The programme was marked with performances from various Naga artists such as Muno Shiu, Tokaholi Chishi, Abdon Mech, Jano Nyekha, Oren Mozhui and Ukelele Dimapur.
