Aizawl, Aug. 27 (PTI): The Mizoram BJP on Tuesday said it has demonstrated in Lawngtlai district to protest against the Chakma Autonomous District Council (Land and Revenue) Rules, 2019 claiming that some of its provisions are anti- people.
They held the demonstration in front of the Chakma Autonomous District Council’s office at Chawngte and set fire to the copies of the Rules on Monday.

“There are certain provisions in the Rules which are against the interest of the residents of the area. The BJP sees it as a policy of the executive committee to snatch people’s lands,” the statement said.

The saffron party said there were no land lease and ceiling provisions in the CADC Land Revenue and Settlement Act, 2002 which safeguarded the lands of the residents of the area.

The council’s executive committee headed by Chief Executive Member RM Chakma of the Mizo National Front passed the Rules on August 21 during the monsoon session of the council with 17 votes in favour and seven votes against it, the release said.
