Imphal, Oct. 16 (EMN): Manipur Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh was adjudged as the 3rd ‘Best Chief Minister of the Country’ in a nation-wide survey conducted by the media group – India Today.
State Governor Dr. Najma Heptulla honoured the chief minister on Monday. While congratulating Singh on Monday during a brief felicitation programme at the Raj Bhavan in Imphal, she said Biren Singh is the best chief minister the state has ever produced.

Singh with his cabinet ministers have initiated and achieved a lot of progressive programme for the welfare of the people of the state during his one and half year tenure as the chief minister of the state, she said.

Stating that the state has moved forward and it is now recognised by the rest of the country which earlier used to stop somewhere in Assam, she added now people have realized that there is something beautiful beyond the borders of Assam.

The governor stated that under the leadership of Biren Singh, the state government is working hard to promote tourism and the hospitality industry.
People are coming to the state looking for possible opportunities in opening up nursing college, small food processing unit, solar energy plant around the Loktak

Lake by an NGO coming from Kuwait namely Quark Ganges Power Private Limited, which is a positive prospect for the state, she said, adding that the name and fame of Manipur has gone beyond the border of the country.

Biren Singh was elected as the leader of the BJP Legislatures Party of Manipur in March, 2017. Later this 56 year old national-level footballer-turned-journalist-turned-politician was sworn in as the 24th Chief Minister of Manipur on March 15, 2017. Under his leadership, the government has taken up many developmental projects for the benefit of the people of Manipur. After taking charge as chief minister of the state, he initiated the schemes ‘Go to Hill’ and ‘Go to Village’ to bridge the gap between the valley and the Hill people and to cater benefits to the people residing in remote areas of the State.

Many schemes were introduced focusing on the welfare of the people such as Chief Minister-gi Hakshelgi Tengbang, Chief Minister-gi Sotharabasingi Tenbang among others.

Interacting with the media persons on the sideline of the day’s felicitation programme, Singh said that soon after swearing-in as the chief minister, his first priority was to work for the people and work with the people.

He said he is motivated to work harder for the welfare of each and every citizen of the state after being conferred as the 3rd Best Chief Minister of the Country. Thanking the governor and the officials of the governors’ secretariat, for her guidance in every step and her constant encouragement and well wishes, he dedicated the achievement to the people of the State.
