Big names to vie for CAWA championship title

Many prominent wrestlers from Nagaland are expected to participate in the 28th edition of Chokri Area Wrestling Association (CAWA) championship 2020 scheduled to be held on January 21 at Thenyizumi village.

This was made official in an announcement made by the CAWA officials on Monday.

Prominent wrestlers like Venuzo Dawhuo, Vevohu Swuro, Vetuzo Dawhuo, Pfusato Tetseo, Besuhveto Ciimu, Vekuyi Medeo and Thepukhoyi Swuro, who had featured in Nagaland Wrestling Association and other tournaments, are set to enter the arena for the CAWA championship title.

CAWA president Zazhota Dawhuo confirmed to this newspaper that over 40 wrestlers from ten units will be taking part in the competition.

Total prize money for the tournament is INR 2,30,000.

Further, the CAWA officials informws that MLA Khriehu Liezietsu will grace the tournament as chief guest, while the Director of Nagaland State Lotteries, Zhothisa Dawhuo will be the guest of honour.

The host village, Thenyizumi, is in Phek district, 62 km away from the state capital town via ATI/BSF Camp Kohima.

The management of the wrestling championship, Thenyizumi Baptist Church informed that prices for the tickets have been fixed at INR 1000 (for donors), INR 500 and INR 300 (for chairs), and INR 100 for the galleries.
