Beauticians make the looks at Hornbill Night Carnival

Godrej Salon and YouthNet organised a competition “80’s and 90’s Electric Glam,” a competition for beauticians and entrepreneurs in the beauty industry, from December 1 to the 7th, at the Hornbill Night Carnival in
Kohima. The event was initiated to promote entrepreneurs in the area of beauty and wellness.

The competition engaged the participants in make-up, hair dressing and nail art, among others. Each night, officials from YouthNet assessed the competitors’ services, individual efforts, leadership skills and interaction with clients, and points were awarded.

Nine beauticians from Kohima, Dimapur and Mokokchung who own salons were shortlisted for the competition. They were grouped into ‘nail art,’ ‘makeup,’ and ‘hair’ teams with a separate theme and a stall each. The organisers set aside INR 51,000 for the competition. The makeup team consisting of Vila, Akum and Maya walked away with a cash award of INR 30,000 and citations.

Vila Yiese, one of the winners from Kohima was excited that the organisers came up with such platform from which she was able to make friends with fellow beauticians while learning together from the competition.

Kenei Koza from Dimapur who underwent a beautician course from Kolkata through a sponsorship from the government said the participants received positive response from visitors. Akumla Kichu, a beautician from Mokokchung, said she enjoyed the festival and expressed happiness in rendering service to visitors at the salons at the carnival.

The strongest and the fittest

The third edition of the Hornbill International Strongest and Fittest competition was held on December 7 in the amphitheatre of Kisama. The competition was organised by the Nagaland Strongman & Fitness Association
and sponsored by the Tourism department.

The events included challenges such as tyre flips, ‘farmers walk,’ loading race, and stone lifting. Sedevizo Keretsu from Life Fitness gym was declared the strongest while Kevilelie Pienyu from De Oriental gym and Tsuknungakum Jamir from Flex Appeal Gym, won the first runner-up and second runnerup title, in that order.

The competition also included an event called ‘Fittest,’ for men and women. The segment of the competition requires the competitors to complete a number of challenges that includes lift squats, stone lifting, pull ups, one-leg squat and box jumps.
The winner of the Fittest event for men was Vilazolie Rio from Life Fitness gym while Riku Khape and Trijongba Sangtam from Life Fitness Gym won the 2nd and 3rd place, in that order.

The winner of the Fittest for women was Nuneno Neihu from Flex Appeal Gym while Yashikala and Chubanungla were declared the first and second runner-up, in that order.

Sweets and cakes
A baking and chocolate making class was held at the Kids Carnival of the Hornbill Festival. The event was conceptualised and managed by Synergy Group Enterprise with the support of the department of Tourism, updates stated.
The resource person for the class was Hemen Deka from Kohima
Exotic School of Cooking. There were six participants in the class. They learned how to bake and make cookies, cupcakes and chocolates, a press release from the organisers informed
