Dimapur, Jan. 16 (EMN): As protestors continue to fight against the
Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in various parts of the country, a group of
likeminded young individuals from Nagaland too have decided to take a stand
against the Act and organise a protest at the Supermarket in Dimapur on January
18.
Speaking to Eastern Mirror, a member of the organising committee of ‘Nagaland against CAA,’ a protest against the Act led by the Naga public, said it is high time that the people take a stand against the Act and support other states, especially neighbouring Assam.
“It is amazing that Nagaland is maintaining silence but the frustration of the youth, also because of the two MPs that betrayed us, is simmering,” said the member.
The member informed that initially a few of them started a WhatsApp group to talk about the ongoing issue but decided to garner more members on a bigger platform. “After WhatsApp, we decided to create a page on Facebook; and we have received an overwhelming response,” said the member.
Although the Facebook page has many followers, the member shared that “people who walk the talk is very less” though online response is good.
“How long do we (have to) remain silent? We should take to the streets and voice out in a non-violent and peaceful manner,” said the member while urging the public to join the protest and send a “clear message’ to New Delhi. He added the protest is strictly apolitical in nature and will consist of music, skits and painting.
“When the whole country is in uproar, Nagaland cannot remain silent. So, it is a request to the public to show your solidarity with the rest of the country and participate in the protest,” read a press release from the organising committee.
The anti-CAA protest is scheduled to start at 10 am on Saturday.
