Kohima, Oct. 11 (EMN):
The All Nagaland Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Association (ANAWAHA) started its agitation on Friday by skipping work and not sending their daily reports to the head office.

The association is agitating against the Social Welfare department’s failure to release all pending honorarium and arrears.

The president of Kohima district ANAWAHA, Zuhuvelu, told Eastern Mirror that they had been forced to work without having their honorarium and arrears cleared. She informed that there are 875 workers in Kohima district itself, but only around half of them were paid till July; and none of the workers across the state have been paid since the month of August.

According to her, the association had submitted a memorandum to the director of Social Welfare department on September 12 seeking the release of pending honorarium and arrears. However, she said, the department had only cleared the payment for some few workers till July.

The association submitted another proposal to the director but the department has taken no action till date, she added.

Zuhuvelu informed that the director of the department has called for a meeting on Tuesday, October 15. Further plans will be formulated depending on the outcome of the proposed meeting, she added.

The association had earlier stated that the agitation was to protest the failure of the Social Welfare department to clear pending honorarium and arrears, besides the failure to respond to its representations.
