Dimapur, Dec. 20 (EMN): The All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) has once again sought the state government’s action on few issues confronting the student community in the state.

In a memorandum addressed to the chief minister and the minister for Higher and Technical Education, and Tribal Affairs, the union appealed for a permanent settlement to the Kohima Science College land issue.

“To put on record, Kohima Science College is preparing to be assessed again in the next two to three years and is optimistic to be deemed as a university. As such, the land issue must be settled on priority. The ANCSU further would like to question the state government for still not bringing out any land survey report on other district colleges/institutes as assured by the chief minister’s office through local dailies on August 16, 2018,” it stated.

Acknowledging the government for setting up a common scholarship portal and notifying the establishment of a nodal on October 25, the union appealed to make the cell functional by early 2020.

Further, it acknowledged the advertising of posts for 63 assistant professors by the Nagaland Public Service Commission on November 13. “However, the ANCSU would also like to take this opportunity to impress upon the government to advertise the remaining 47 assistant professors post through NPSC at the earliest. The union strongly stands the ground that the sanctioned 110 Assistant Professors posts be recruited through NPSC.”

It also proposed setting establishing an academic council ‘to facilitate excellence in the growth of the state’s Higher and Technical Education’.

“The academic council should have representatives such as academicians, educationists, professors/associate professors/HOD from colleges within the state, and other required members felt genuine by the department and the state government. The academic council should engage in the framing of education policies and programme, academic performances of the colleges/institutes,  correspond with the academic council in Nagaland University for necessary action and proposal of requisite faculty staff in colleges/institutes in strict accordance with the UGC guidelines,” it stated.
