Kohima, Oct. 9 (EMN): Since its launch on October 2 2017, FM Tragopan, of the All India Radio at Kohima has reached the homes and hearts of not only the people of Nagaland, but also neighbouring states of Manipur, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
The name of the radio channel is named after the state’s bird Blythe Tragopan, an endangered species and mostly found in Nagaland. The name seeks to also convey the message of conservation to the people of the state, especially the younger generation.
The faceless people behind the radio FM are the Radio Jockeys (RJ). They have won the hearts of their listeners through creative, humorous, non-stop, jovial and skilful presentation. The programme receives about 400 SMS every day. As of today, it relays regional news including news in 14 local Naga dialects. It also holds the record of relaying the highest transmission of ‘thirty news’ a day.
FM Tragopan celebrated its first anniversary at the AIR Station in Kohima Tuesday afternoon. Programme executive LK Mulony said that the primary objective of the broadcasting services was to give quality programme and better coverage to listeners and ‘change the broadcasting system.’
To reach out to the rural mass, Mulony informed that ‘Bosti manohar karne’ programme is being relayed besides ‘The morning echoes,’ a daily interview-based interactive programme which is being relayed once a week to motivate youths.
He said that the programme has relay set ups at Tening, Meluri, Shamator and Dimapur at 100.1 Mhz; Phek at 102.1 mhz; and Wokha at 101.8 mhz. Besides CRC Mon and Tuensang also relay FM Tragopan.
The launch of the FM Tragopan came with many challenges. But Mulony is proud that it is progressing and gaining popularity with many sponsored programmes and live shows coming in. He hoped that people would come forward for live shows in the future.
Acknowledging the continuous support and service of the people behind the success of FM Tragopan, Mulony sought the same kind of spirit and hard work for the betterment of AIR Kohima and better services to the people of Nagaland.
Short speeches were also delivered by PS Tripathi, assistant engineer, and representatives from the RJ and news section.
