Mokokchung, Dec. 7 (EMN):
After yearlong activities promoting local agriculture and horticulture seeds native to the Ao land, the Watsu Mungdang will be presenting its ‘2nd Aowli Benjongmong’ from December 12 to the 13th also.
During a press conference at the Watsu Mungdang office on Saturday, Dr Anungla Aier, the convener of the programme, informed that the ‘Aowli Benjongmong
2019’ has been dubbed the ‘seeds festival’ to encourage and preserve indigenous
seeds ‘which are on the verge of extinction.’
She said that the two-day event will be held at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex. There will be an array of activities focusing on farmers and youths besides activities heralding warm Christmas festivity in the town.
The features of the festival include exhibition and sale of indigenous seeds, organic vegetables, local rice, livestock and indigenous food; handicraft, decorative items, flower, fast food and baked cakes, among others.
There will be entertainment too besides games and Christmas themed events.
The Watsu Mungdang has also incorporated a ‘Christmas tree competition.’
The organisers have conducted seminars and awareness programmes on grading and packaging of agricultural products with special emphasis on educating the farmer to minimise use of plastic and to opt for biodegradable materials for packaging; value addition for sustainable livelihood, and health care and entrepreneurship for farmers.
The committee said they want to promote the Aowli festival to be a family affair. It will be plastic-free while alcohol and other intoxicating substances are banned. The six ranges in Mokokchung district will be participating i the two-day festival, updates
