4% job reservation for persons with benchmark disabilities

Dimapur, Aug. 25 (EMN): The government of Nagaland has announced 4% reservation for persons with benchmark disabilities in government jobs, under section 34 of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act of 2016, a statement from the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities informed on Sunday.

Benchmark disability refers to having at least 40% disability of any type recognised under the RPwD Act of 2016

“Identification of jobs for the various disability categories will be carried out by the departments and reviewed by an expert committee in compliance with Section 33 (ii) of the Act,” the statement read.

Nagaland has also enacted the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Rules, 2016. According to the statement, the state disability rules have been laid down as per the provisions under section 101(1) of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act of 2016.

The ‘Nagaland Rights of Persons with Disabilities Rules, 2019’ was approved by the state cabinet, and notified on August 16, it informed.
