Repair of Kohima Science College Road — An Appreciation
The Principal, faculty and students of Kohima Science College, Jotsoma, would like to express our appreciation of the Government of Nagaland for the ongoing repair of the road leading up to the college from Kohima town.
A good road has been a long-felt need of the thousands of students and staff of the college and of nearby institutions who commute to their places of study and work every day. The road passes through forested land for the most part and withstands high-altitude humidity and overflowing streams though all seasons. Apart from being the only direct approach road to the growing township around the college, the road has served as an alternative road for travellers to Dimapur in several past years whenever the highway suffered blockage due to seasonal landslides. It thus undergoes a rapid rate of wearing down when left to disrepair. Over the years, however, repairs have been few and far between, and oftentimes these have been token and short-term fixes.
The present repair and resurfacing of the road is reportedly one of first-rate quality and appears to be so. The roadside surface water drains are being constructed with effective workmanship. It is our hope that the work will be brought to successful conclusion soon and that maintenance and upkeep of the road will be an ongoing project.
In addition to facilitating the comfort of daily commuters, the restored road enables the many who use it for recreational purposes, daily walks, cycling etc. The road in its good condition also adds to the natural beauty of the wooded hills it crosses.
We feel pride in being the beneficiaries of good public service. We congratulate the government, the concerned departments and everyone involved in the project.
