Dimapur, April 23 (EMN): Nagaland is trending on social networking sites for an interesting reason: the inauguration of the Sumi Baptist Church of Zunheboto (SBCZ) on April 22. The church building is believed to be one of the biggest Baptist churches in Asia.
Standing tall at a height of 1864.9m above sea level as per records, it took ten years for the church to complete and the wait, especially for the faithful from the area. The church is said to have been built with a budget of Rs. 36 crore. It is believed to house about 8, 500 people.
The blue coloured spire of the SBCZ is a sight to behold. Some people have even been describing its appearance as being similar to that of a castle. Painted in pure white with blue cupola, a tour of the church is good enough for visitors.
Nagaland’s population is predominantly Christian. Fine-looking church buildings constructed out of humble donations from believers and well-wishers perhaps reflects the devotion of the people.
