Dimapur, Jan 10: Zero Boys and Zungamedem registered win against their respective opponents on the sixth day of the ongoing MDCA Inter Club T20 Cricket Tournament played at Imkongmeren Sports complex on January 10.
In the first match of the day, Zero Boys beat Longmiasang by a mammoth 62 runs. After winning the toss and sending opponent to bat first, Longmiasang bowlers couldn’t contain Imlikokba’s batting who scored 54 runs and helped his team set a target of 132 runs in 20 overs. Yarsen was the pick of the bowler with 3/14 and Ochijunger and Longsen took a wicket each. Chasing the target, Longmiasang CC were bundled out for 69 runs in just 15.3 overs.
For Longmiasang, Armen scored 24 runs while Longsen scored 13 runs. Along was the chief destroyer with ball in hand with a figure of 6/8 in 4 overs. Wadangren took 2/7 in 3 overs.
The second match of the day played between Trebuchet and Zungamedem was a thriller till the last ball with both team having a chance to win or a tie till the last ball. But a last ball blunder by the Trebuchet’s wicket keeper cost them the match and Zungamedem won by 4 wickets. It was the most exciting as well as the most tense match of the tournament so far. Trebuchet having won the toss and electing to bat first could not score freely with the Zungamedem bowlers bowling a tight line and length. The bowlers were well supported by the fielders who took some marvellous catches. They restricted Trebuchet for just 96/9 in 20 overs. Imnayanger was the top scorer with 23 runs and Kalyen made 21 runs. For Zungamedem, Lipokyapang, Temjentoshi, Funitchiba and Bendangopang took 2 wickets each.
Chasing the tricky target of 97 runs, Zungamedem got off to a good start but lost their track with some silly wickets in the form of run out and bad shot selection. Merensunep, with an inning of 26 runs, and Rongsenyanger’s 19 runs were the chief contributor for Zungamedem in the run chase.
The last over was bowled by Kalyen who bowled beautifully but a sloppy miss by the keeper in the last ball with Zungamedem requiring 2 runs from the final ball which the batsman missed it completely and the keeper letting it pass him for a boundary handing Zungamedem their second win of the tournament. For Trebuchet Merenkaba, Vickey Ali and Wapangtoshi took 1 wicket each.
