Zeliangrong Youth Front opposes creation of new districts

Dimapur, Sep.24. (EMN):The Zeliangrong Youth Front has strongly opposed the Manipur Govt. for arbitrarily creating new districts last year without the consent and knowledge of the Zeliangrong and the Naga people who are the ‘owners of their ancestral land’. This was stated in a press release from the Zeliangrong Youth Front Publicity Wing.The districts creation issue is going on involving govt. of India, govt. of Manipur and the United Naga Council-the Naga apex organisation in the state of Manipur representing the interest and sentiment of the Naga people where few rounds of talks had been held with efforts to bring solution to this issue, it stated.
“There are some elements supposedly sponsored by political party and politicians who are out to create confusion to general public have started raising unnecessary demands. These elements have started demanding and raising unnecessary and unrealistic issue by submitting memorandum (s) before the govt. of Manipur knowing or unknowing the limitations of the state govt”, stated the youth front.
According to the youth front press statement, ‘the unnecessary noise created by politically motivated elements instrumental by politicians by way of floating forums or associations in the name of different nomenclatures may have their own policy and intention to discredit the present govt. but does not represent the interest and sentiment of the Zeliangrong people and Tamenglong district since the Zeliangrong and the Naga people have totally rejected the creation of new districts’.
Therefore, the Zeliangrong Youth Front states ‘in the interest of the people and to safeguard and protect the ancestral land and its natural resources will take up appropriate steps as and when required’.
“Regarding the Autonomous District Council issue, the Zeliangrong and the Naga people knowing well of the sinister design of the previous Manipur govt., had strongly opposed the holding of ADC Election held in 2010 since the Act which was amended by the Manipur govt. totally violated the rights and interest of the tribal people”.
It further questioned, ‘when even the principal Act of the Autonomous District Council cannot safeguard and protect the rights and interest of the tribal for which the tribal people had rejected the holding of ADC Election for the last 20 years, the previous Manipur govt. in a hasty manner had conducted the ADC Election in 2010 with the amended Act despite the strong opposition from the Naga people thereby the Naga people had declared the ADC as null and void’.
“The youth front cautioned that any issue particularly new districts creation and ADC matter raised by some groups based on electoral politics is not related to Zeliangrong people and Tamenglong district. The Zeliangrong Youth Front advised those elements and groups not to drag the people and the name of Tamenglong district unnecessarily in their craving for sectional interest”.
Politicians who are out of power while trying to make their presence felt in the society are busy in devising different forms, policies and methods which are misleading and purely party based electoral politics in nature which would never facilitate benefit to people except to create confusion and discord amongst the people, the press note added.
