Dimapur, July 27: Zeliangrong Baudi (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) and the All Zeliangrong Students’ Union (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland), have demanded to put immediate stop on illegal logging in Zeliangrong territory allegedly by NSCN/GPRN under Huthrong Brigade, transfer of commander along with cadres involved in logging and to revoke ‘Bond of agreement’ signed under duress wit h Chaka and Kanemn villages.
In a letter to the Collective Leadership of NSCN/GPRN, ZB (AMN) president Raitu Chawang and AZSU (AMN) president Nchaheing Kompoing pointed out that Razaima (Maram) village under Senapati district, Manipur, is under the traditional land of Chaka/ Kanem, a Zeliangrong village, and the land has been in dispute for last few years. Subsequent upon this dispute, the NSCN/GPRN Kilo Affairs has banned total logging in the area on February 19, 2016, vide Order No. GPRN/KK/ESTT/05/16/53.
However, despite the banned order, it alleged that the Commander of Huthrong Brigade and some of its cadres started illegal logging with vested interested group(s) engaging machineries like (Earthmover) into the forest destroying the ecology and environment of the dense virgin forest of Zeliangrong territory.
It alleged that when the landowners of Chaka and Kanem villagers protested the action of NSCN/GPRN, they were summoned to their camp on 18/04/2016 and made them signed a statement called “Bond of Agreement” under duress on the same day under the 2nd in Command of Huthrong Brigade, which it said was highly objectional and uncalled for from the national workers.
It said in the pretext of solving the land dispute of Chaka/ Kanem and Razairnai, which is under the jurisdiction of Zeliangrong land, the NSCN/GPRN cadres were involved in illegal logging operations in full-view of the innocent villagers armed with sophisticated weapons which was unbecoming of the national workers.
In the light of the above stated circumstances, the organizations have demanded the Collective Leadership of the NSCN/GPRN to intervene and order immediate stop to illegal logging operations in Chaka/ Kanem Zeliangrong areas. It also demanded immediate transfer of the Commander, ranks and files of all NSCN/GPRN cadres of Huthrong Brigade involved in illegal logging along with all machineries and to immediately revoke the forced “Bond Signed Agreement” with Chaka/Kanem villagers in the best interest of justice and for the greater interest of the Naga nation.
